Gotye-SomeBody That I Used To Know
Cinematography-the cinematography of this video is very
strange it features one smooth shot at the beginning tilting up along the
artist’s body. The artist is painted using stop- frame animation this gradual
painting shows him blending into the background. This fits with the song,
showing he is being forgotten and is just fading away. Camera movements are very limited with only two movements of the camera shown.
Mise-en-scene- in this music video the main background is
hand painted and slowly appears more throughout the video. The artist is stood and the audience is given the impression that
he is naked, this is to show the audience that he has nothing left to hide and
is shown bare and truthful to the audience. The artist is them slowly painted
and blends into the background, this is used to show that the artist is fading
away and is being forgotten, this is used to show the feeling of the artist and
what emotions are impacting him literally he wants to fade away and hide in the
background.
The sound I weird when combined with the music video because
the music video does not follow on with the song, the editing timings do not
match the beat of the song due to the length of shots, this means that it is a
peculiar song to watch because something about it (the timings) doesn’t always
fit into what audiences expect from music videos. This means that the codes
which audiences recognise are sometimes not applied and so do not appear to
conform to what is ‘normal of a music video’ . the video does however also
include codes and conventions that audiences can recognise such as conventional
camera angles such as close ups on the singer and two shots when two are
singing together.
Editing in the music video is not conventional becuase editing happens but shots last longer than is conventional for music videos.
